Surya, a Georgia home furnishings company is buying Taylorsville-based Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. The furniture maker closed its locations in August and filed for bankruptcy.

It comes two weeks after its factories in Western North Carolina abruptly closed, leaving hundreds of workers without jobs.

The company employed about 700 people in Taylorsville.

Inmates at the Alexander Correctional Facility, located about an hour west of Winston-Salem, allege they are being mistreated. Some have been on a hunger strike to protest these conditions.
